Blockbuster Purchases Movielink to Build Online Distribution Network

A source reports that Blockbuster has just purchased online firm Movielink for an undisclosed figure.

Movielink, which was rumored to sell for at least $50 million, may assist the longtime video rental company in its ongoing battle against Netflix.

Some time ago Netflix, which was crowned king of online VOD by Compete, released a complimentary streaming film component for subscribers. The ability to download these films was recently discovered by hackers, adding security concerns to the online movie rental brand's list of issues to address.
