Reports of Facebook Ads Performing Poorly, but Ad Network for Apps on the Way

Though more ad options are planned for the site, Facebook advertising is performing dismally for buyers, reports Mashable.

Currently, Facebook offers advertisers banner ads and flyers, which are large text-based ads found on the site. But the average clickthrough rate is only 0.04 percent based on reports from both Valleywag and Reach Students, a UK-based company.

The reason for the poor performance is blamed on the "messaging" nature of Faceboook: since it's message-based instead of content-based, the site has less wandering eyes.

Help is on the way for advertisers though as Facebook plans more options for the site. Already, several are working on getting Facebook's popular apps ad-supported, including MyBlogLog's Scott Rafer and another called fbExchange.
